Non surgical liposuction Melbourne can be one of a number of procedures which use lasers, heat, cooling or sound waves to “destroy” fat cells which will the be removed from the body as metabolic products. Although pigmentation treatment Sydney has recently been touted as the best method for permanent hair removal, this is not entirely true. The results from laser hair treatment are varied dependent upon the person receiving the treatment and should not be generalized.

Whether or not you are a good candidate for laser hair removal will depend on mainly on what type of skin and hair pigment you have. Ideally, your hair pigment should be darker than the surrounding skin. Melanin is the pigment that gives hair and skin their color. Laser hair removal will be more successful on people with darker hair pigment than fairer haired people.

The reason for this is that more of the lasers energy will be absorbed by the darker hairs. This energy produces heat in the hair shaft and into the follicle. Here, the excessive heat will damage the hair follicle whilst sparing the surrounding tissue. The follicle is now unable to grow new hairs.

People who have dark skin or tanned skin will have more melanin than very fair skinned people. This melanin will absorb some of the laser light and diminish the amount of energy absorbed by the hair. For a successful treatment, skin absorption should be kept at a minimum. There are several ways to achieve this. The main method is to cool the skin down during the treatment process. A simple cold compress would be used on the area to be treated.

A more recent method to keep the skin cooler is to use a pulsed laser rather than a continuous one. This pulsing energy delivers less heat keeping the skin cool whilst at the same time generating heat in the hair follicle where it is needed. The different types of laser device are as shown :-

Alexandrite – This is a long pulse laser

Diode – These are generally used on darker skin

Q-Switched Nd:YAG – This delivers two wavelengths which treat both deep hair follicles and ones nearer the surface of the skin.

Ruby – Another method of generating a laser beam.

If you are seriously considering having laser hair removal treatment, and you are looking for somewhere to have it done, it is important to choose a practitioner that has a significant amount of experience in laser hair removal treatments. Ideally, try and seek advice from somebody who has already used a particular practitioner and what their experiences were. This will give you a good idea about the quality of the treatment they provide. Try and steer clear of places that offer guaranteed permanent hair removal or have discounted offers. Additionally, some states have laws that dictate what qualifications a laser hair removal specialist should have. Check out your state requirements before committing to a treatment centre.

Once you have decided on a treatment centre, and have decided that you are a good candidate for laser hair removal, you can follow a few pre-treatment tips to ensure you get the best results. First of all, do not have a tan or top up a tan before your treatment is due. This will only darken your skin will result in less laser energy getting to the hair follicle. Also try and shave the area two or three days before your treatment is due. This will leave you with quite short hairs on the day of treatment which is ideal for laser hair removal treatment. Other things to avoid are foods that contain beta carotene. This is found mainly in fruits and vegetables, especially the brighter ones. Beta carotene is a pigment that may tint your skin tone and affect the treatment in the same way as for tanning.

When you are receiving your laser treatment, you will be asked to wear a pair of special goggles that will prevent any laser energy reaching your eyes. The actual process of laser hair removal is quite simple. The person administering the treatment will place a device over your skin and briefly activate it. During this brief period, laser light will shine down onto your skin and the energy will travel down the hair and into the follicle where it will damage the follicle and prevent any further hairs from growing.

There are some side effects with laser hair removal. One of the most common side effects is a slight discoloration of the skin in the treated area. You may also experience some swelling andor redness. These symptoms will generally die down after treatment.

The advantages of laser hair removal are that it is a simple non-invasive procedure with no need for creams, razors or any other devices. Also large areas can be treated in one go.

The main disadvantages are that it will not work as well on some people as others. Also follow up treatments will be needed. This is because hair grown in stages. Hairs that grow through later will need treating also.
